January 22, 2003

At the Winter NAMM show, Behringer introduced the AUTOCOM PRO-XL1600, the COMPOSER PRO-XL2600, and the MULTICOM PRO-XL4600 (price TBA for all models), improving some of their best-selling product.

According to company founder Uli Behringer, "BEHRINGER has sold hundreds of thousands of our dynamics processors in the past five years. With the new PRO-XL Series, we shaped a new generation of dynamic processors, with improved audio performance and many new features, making them truly stand out from the crowd."

All three processors have an IDE (Interactive Dynamic Enhancer), which specifically makes up for the compression-induced loss of treble energy, as well as the IKA (Interactive Knee Adaptation), which combines the advantages of hard-knee and soft-knee characteristics. Additionally, all three models share the IRC (Interactive Ratio Control) expander, which automatically adjusts the ratio setting for virtual inaudible noise suppression, and the IGC (Interactive Gain Control), yet another outstanding feature with dual-stage peak-limiting circuitry that combines a clipper and a program limiter.

The AUTOCOM PRO-XL and the COMPOSER PRO-XL have an all-new switchable VAD (Voice Adaptive) de-esser. The VAD specifically differentiates between male and female voices. Additions include LED displays to set the de-esser levels and a switchable enhancer. The COMPOSER PRO-XL incorporates ATS (Authentic Tube Simulation) to simulate classic tube circuitry for extra warmth and transparency. The MULTICOM PRO-XL has been upgraded with an enhancer and an expander/noise gate.

Ultra low-noise 4580 operational amplifiers and state-of-the-art THAT VCAs offer audio quality possible, while high-quality detented ALPS potentiometers and illuminated switches round out the reference package.
