Three New Gibson Montana's L-Series Cutaway Models January 16, 2003
Gibson Montana creates three distinctive new acoustic voices with the LC-series acoustic-electric guitars. The comfortable, small-body cutaway models feature a cedar top in combination with walnut, koa and quilted maple bodies, and all are equipped with a Schertler Bluestick transducer pickup.
"Cedar, walnut, koa and quilted maple are elite tonewoods that are typically used in custom-made instruments," says Henry Juszkiewicz, Gibson chairman and CEO. "The LC body is our 'Advanced L-00' style, which we designed to maximize projection without losing the delicate nuances that make smallbody guitars so special. It's the perfect guitar body for the multi-layered tonalities these woods create."
The new guitars are named after the geographical areas associated with their respective tone woods. Maple is associated with Washington state, where the Cascade Mountains are located, and the LC-1 Cascade has solid quilted maple back and sides with pearl dot fingerboard inlays. Walnut trees grow in the wine country of California, including Sonoma County, and the LC-2 Sonoma has solid walnut back and sides with abalone "floret" inlays. Koa wood is found on the slopes of the Hawaiian islands, below the "calderas" (craters) of the volcanos, and the LC-3 Caldera has solid flamed koa back and sides with abalone "autumn leaf" inlays. All three models are available in either an antique natural or vintage sunburst lacquer finish with vintage-style gold-plated tuners.
These MasterBuilt Gibson acoustics come equipped with Schertler Bluestick Transducer pickups for warm, natural wood tones when amplified or recorded. Other features include a pickup volume control, easy-action neck design, abalone soundhole ring and Gibson's sculpted bridge.
