Gibson USA's new limited edition Les Paul Supreme features highly figured maple -- the Les Paul's trademark -- on the back as well as the top. The distinctive look is enhanced by custom binding, deluxe pearl fingerboard inlays and a pearl-and-brass globe inlaid on the headstock.
"With the stunning AAAA-grade maple on the back as well as the top, the Supreme more than doubles the traditional aesthetic attraction of the Les Paul," says Henry Juszkiewicz, Gibson chairman and CEO. "The theme of top quality appointments carries over to the entire instrument, making the Supreme the perfect guitar to kick off the next fifty years of the Les Paul."
Gibson debuted the Les Paul Model in 1952, and has since made over 100 different Les Paul models, although none has featured the degree of ornamentation represented by the Supreme's curly maple top and back. The Supreme has a chambered mahogany body for a lighter feel. It features custom binding on top, back, fingerboard and headstock and split-block inlays on an ebony fingerboard. Finishes include Heritage Cherry Sunburst, Desert Burst, Root Beer and Trans Amber.
The Les Paul Supreme will be produced in a limited run of 2003 instruments.
