January 16, 2003

Mackie Designs announced the implementation of HUI Mode for the Mackie Control, allowing it to interface with the popular Pro Tools platform. Pro Tools joins a growing family of popular DAW (digital audio workstations) platforms that are currently compatible with the Mackie Control including: Cakewalk SONAR, Magix Samplitude, MOTU Digital Performer, Steinberg Cubase SX, Cubase SL and Nuendo, as well as the Mackie Broadcast Professional Soundscape 32.

"Implementing HUI Mode capabilities, and therefore Pro Tools support, is the next logical step in our endeavor to make Mackie Control the most widely supported mission-specific control surface on the market," commented Keith Olsen, Corporate Director, Global Recording Market and Product Development at Mackie Designs Inc. "Pro Tools customers will now benefit from Mackie Control's familiar, mixer-like interface as they dive deeper into the power of their software than ever before."

Mackie Control with HUI Mode and Pro Tools compatibility will begin shipping in late Q1 2003. Mackie will also provide a Pro Tools specific Lexan overlay. At the same time, a HUI firmware upgrade will be made available for all existing Mackie Control owners.

About the HUI Protocol

The HUI MIDI Protocol was developed in the late 90's by Mackie Designs and first appeared in the original Mackie HUI Control Surface in 1997. This controller transformed mixing in Pro Tools by eliminating the reliance on a mouse in favor of an analog-style interface with knobs, faders, and buttons. Mackie Control with HUI mode capabilities continues Mackie's tradition of bringing functionality and ergonomics into the Pro Tools studio.
