Aphex Systems debuted of their new range of effects pedals, the Aphex Xciters, at Winter NAMM. Aphex Systems brings their powerful technology directly to the stage with three new effects pedals tuned expressly for acoustic, electric and bass guitar. All three models come equipped with the legendary Aphex Aural Exciter with Optical Big Bottom, bringing professional quality effects to the MI market. The 'easy to use' design of the Xciters features four control knobs, allowing separate control of the Aural Exciter and Big Bottom effects. Additionally, each model features an on/off foot switch, providing a straight bypass when the "off" position is selected; an LED indicator quickly shows whether the effects are on or off; a switch for passive or active pick-ups for optimum noise performance; and each model is equipped with a high quality, balanced DI output that can be connected to the microphone input of any preamplifier or sound mixer. The units can be powered either by the industry standard external DC power supply or by 9V battery for maximum convenience and portability. The Aphex Aural Exciter adds natural brightness, clarity, and presence by elegantly creating and manipulating the harmonics of sound waves. Each model's operating range is optimized for the specific instrument (acoustic, electric or bass guitar) and allows users to control the low frequency limit for treble enhancement, so that the Aural Exciter handles all frequencies above the user set point. The "Hi Blend" control allows users to mix in the amount of Aural Exciter effect from zero to the maximum available. The Big Bottom section dynamically enhances the low end by deepening and expanding the bass tones according to an adaptive process. Big Bottom circuitry protects speakers while it extends their bass producing capability. For bass instruments this means bigger, deeper bass without adding speakers or amps. With acoustic instruments, Big Bottom adds a warmer tone that makes the instrument sound bigger and fuller, and for electric guitars, it provides another dimension of expression at the lower end of the scale. User controls include the selection for the upper frequency limit for bass enhancement, while the "Lo Blend" control mixes in the desired amount of Big Bottom effect from zero to the maximum available. The colorful Xciters are available now at a suggested retail price of $179.00. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.aphex.com/.
