At the Winter NAMM show, M-Audio announced the new Audiophile USB–a combination audio and MIDI interface for USB computers. The Audiophile USB's minimal size and weight combine with easy USB connectivity to deliver a perfect solution for both laptop and desktop recording environments. The Audiophile USB delivers 24-bit/96kHz fidelity and includes Mac and PC drivers that allow the user to independently scale bit depth and sample rate to deliver the lowest USB latency in the genre. Professional specs such as high 109dB dynamic range and low .002% THD owe to the fact that the unit employs AC-powered components that deliver better fidelity than products based on bus-powered circuitry. Connections include two analog line-level audio inputs (1/4" unbalanced and RCA), two analog line-level audio outputs (RCA), S/PDIF digital in/out, MIDI in/out, and a 1/4" headphone output. Level control knobs are provided for the line-level outs and stereo headphone outs. "Audiophile USB is inspired by the legacy of our Audiophile 2496," says Adam Castillo, M-Audio's Marketing Director. "It is both a logical progression and a perfect complement to our personal mobile studio solutions based on software like Propellerhead Reason and Ableton Live. It also reflects our ongoing conviction that the high-quality drivers we've become known for are just as important as the hardware itself. Audiophile USB is the perfect all-in-one audio and MIDI interface for computer-based musicians across the board–laptop or desktop, stage or studio." Audiophile USB carries a suggested MSRP of $249.99 and is scheduled to ship in January 2003. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.midiman.net/.
