After the introduction of the Brian May Signature guitar and
the traditional Burns historic line of products, now classified as the Burns Classic product line, the company is now
moving forward with new products.
At Winter NAMM 2004, the company introduced the Cobra guitar, the first product in its Player Series. An early prototype of the
Barracuda, 6-sting baritone guitar was shown at the Summer NAMM. This guitar is now in production and is available
for immediate delivery. Other new guitar concepts were on display at NAMM, including a couple of new acoustic
models. In 2004 Burns will also be producing two limited edition models; a gold version of the Brian May guitar and a
50th Anniversary edition of the Legend guitar (originally introduced as the Marvin or the Shadows guitar).
The Cobra includes three high-output, low
noise Burns Tri-Sonic single coil pickups, which are the same pickups used on the Brian May guitar. Also, included as standard features are the bi-directional truss rod and
the push-pull tone control that provides increased pick-up selection. The guitar is available with a maple neck and rosewood
fingerboard, a characteristic Burns split three-ply pickguard and a choice of four body colors; blue, red, black and white. The
Cobra retails at $399, and will be available for shipment in March 2004.
The Barracuda is a classically designed 6-string baritone with a 30-inch scale length. It features the highperformance
Burns Tri-Sonic pickups, and like other Burns guitars is wired with the push-pull tone control for expanded
pickup selection. It is tastefully finished in a transparent red or blue finish with a mother-of-pearl split pickguard and
mother-of-pearl neck bindings. The recommended tuning for this guitar is A-A (ADGCEA). An introductory retail price
of $949 is set for this unique guitar.
Other products on display will include new color offerings for the popular Steer guitar, with versions available in
traditional 3-color sunburst and transparent red; both featuring a cut-away for top-fret access. The transparent red version differs
from the basic specification insofar as it features twin humbuckers, with a coil tap on the bridge pickup.
A special edition of the
Brian May signature guitar was introduced as an anniversary model into the UK in 2003. This model will be available in the
USA on a limited basis (50) during the Summer of 2004. The guitar is produced entirely in a gold finish, with a gold pickguard,
gold hardware and mother-of-pearl body and neck bindings.
2004 marks the 50th anniversary of the first production guitar from Jim Burns. In celebration of this important date
Burns USA plans to introduce a limited edition Burns 50th Anniversary Legend guitar in the original color and design of the first
Marvin guitar. This guitar, handcrafted in the United Kingdom, will be a limited edition model.
