Euphonic Audio introduced the new, Class D, digital iAMP 500 bass amplifier at this year's Winter NAMM show. The iAMP 500 is based on the same technology of its bigger sibling, the iAMP 800.
The preamp section of the iAMP 500 is the classic design found in the all EA amplifiers. The power amplifier stage is EA's new Class D digital design. This new design uses the latest semiconductor and switching technology to deliver massive amounts of current to the loudspeaker while keeping tight control over speaker cone response. Yet, the iAMP 500 is so efficient that it needs no fan.
The iAMP 500 employs a conventional toroidal transformer for the power supply. By using a more conventional power supply, the iAMP 500 has the current reserve missing in other Class D designs. The added current supply means more headroom. This additional headroom is crucial to faithfully reproducing the sound of the electric, electric upright and upright bass with all current bass techniques that span from Rock to Jazz.
The iAMP 500 is 500 watts into 4 ohms, 800 watts peak and only 13 lbs. This portable powerhouse includes: honest power rating throughout the full bandwidth -- you'll get true power throughout the entire audio spectrum, from 20-20kHz; input level control; tone shaping controls; balanced outputs (with a Jensen transformer option for the DI Output section); series effects processing; steel construction and more.
