Gibson Introduces L-4CES Mahogany January 26, 2004
Gibson's Custom, Art & Historic division's new L-4CES Mahogany has the classic L-4 archtop styling but with solid, carved mahogany back and rims that deliver a warmer sound than a traditional maple-body archtop electric.
The L-4CES has the body size and shape of Gibson's venerable ES-175 model, with a 16-inch body width and a "Florentine" pointed cutaway. The L-4's solid spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides offer its owners a significant upgrade to the 175's laminated maple construction, and the model has been produced in low numbers for select musicians and collectors since the late 1950s. The new L-4CES Mahogany features a mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and split-parallelogram inlay, and a pair of '57 Classic humbuckers. It comes with a a Custom Shop L-4 case and custom care kit.
