Software Updates Announced for Korg's XD Series Recorders

January 18, 2004 Korg announced a number of OS enhancements to its D16XD and D32XD Xtended Definition digital recording studios.
Now available, Version 1.1 adds a Mixer setup utility that allows users to create, store and recall commonly used routings, levels, effects settings, and more. This saves time when switching from recording single instruments to full bands and from live mics to mostly MIDI and digital-based production. The new version also improves the functionality of many buttons, making the user interface even more intuitive.
Available in April 2004 is Version 2.0, which allows the XD series to record more simultaneous tracks in 24-bit recording modes -- 12 tracks at 44.1/48 kHz sampling rates and 6 tracks at the 96 kHz rate. The PC drive partition format now uses FAT32 structure, allowing larger partitions than the previous 2 GB limit.
The XD recorders now also offer a noise reduction function in the track edit mode for cleaning up recordings made under less than optimal conditions, as well as the ability to import previous D-Series backup data. The D16XD adds fader grouping and a dynamic automation function (already available on the D32XD). Finally, both models make more use of the four control knobs below the display, for even more intuitive operation.
