PRESS RELEASE

New HHX Manhattan Jazz Cymbals from Sabian

January 15, 2004

Sabian has introduced HHX Manhattan Jazz, a range of cymbals created for players in search of the dark, smoky cymbal tones of those great jazz drummers. Individually handcrafted by Sabian artisans using the company's traditional B20 'secret-process' bronze, Manhattan Jazz models are comparatively thin cymbals, with super-size HHX 'Tone Projection' hammer marks defining their dark, simmering, and soulful sounds. .

Commented SABIAN master product specialist Mark Love: "Manhattan is what today's jazz great, like Billy Kilson and Jeff 'Tain' Watts are playing. These are very organic cymbals... with very traditional hand hammered acoustic properties in every sense of their performance and sound. And the Manhattan name itself is more than a subtle reference to the source of influence for this range. These are all about the traditional sounds heard in the clubs of New York, those smoky bars and late-night hangouts where cymbal sounds were a mix of musical heat and dark, dirt-edge roar. Manhattan Jazz has that edgy darkness and it's delivered with an airy presence that really lets the sound 'breathe'. It's a sound that is reminiscent of older, 'aged' cymbals, with a warm, musical spread and a soft, 'woody' stick attack."

The Manhattan Jazz range consists of hi-hats, crashes and rides: Manhattan Jazz rides (20", 22") are thin, fully hammered and readily respond to the slightest touch. Their sound is a hot and airy mid-frequency wash with a dry 'Th' stick sound that is soft and 'woody' yet expressive and dynamic.

The crashes (16", 18") are thin and highly responsive, making them ideal for playing quick, splashy punches and accents, while their full sound and fast rate of response give them the added flexibility of doubling as a light ride.

Aggressive hammering plays a major role in shaping the sound of Manhattan Jazz Hats (13", 14"). With a light top/medium bottom combination ensuring quick responses and increased touch sensitivity, these pairings combine hot, low undertones with great highs when played open.

HHX Manhattan Jazz cymbals are protected by a special Two-Year Warranty.
