The 2004 Winter NAMM show saw the debut of a new finish, Blue Sparkle, to Tama's long list of available Starclassic Maple colors. "More and more of our artists--Lars Ulrich, Abe Cunningham, Kenny Aronoff and others--have been asking for sparkle finishes for their kits, "said Tomo Yoshinaga of Hoshino's Tama Drum Division. "With that kind of a trend, we felt it was incumbent on us to make more sparkle finishes available to all drummers."
The addition of Blue Sparkle to the Starclassic Maple palette in 2004 brings the number of available finishes to twenty one.
Starclassic Maple drums feature Canadian maple shells with the option of Sound Focus Rings on bass and toms and chrome or brushed nickel shell hardware. Tom Toms and floor toms feature 5mm/6 ply shells. Bass drums feature 7mm/7 ply shells. All toms and snares feature die-cast hoops and all mounted toms feature the Star-Cast mounting system.
For comparisons, a "basic" a Starclassic 5pc kit with hardware has a suggested list price of $4499.99.
