With an emphasis on improved sound, natural feel and user-friendliness, Yamaha Drums introduced two updated models for Winter NAMM 2004--the DTXPRESS III and the DTXPRESS III Special Edition.

Currently available at the original MSRP of $1,295, the DTXPRESS III features a selection of new audio waveforms with a strong concentration on acoustic cymbal sounds. Upgraded soft rubber pads offer drummers more performance comfort, better feel and natural rebound.

Physical improvements include gray metallic support racks that will hide chips and scratches. The DTXPRESS III ships in a single box with the rack fully assembled and all cables coded on both ends, so users can simply fold out the support legs and cymbal arms for a quick and easy setup.

Like previous models in the series, the DTXPRESS III is loaded with more than 1,000 sounds, 128 GM voices, 80 drum kits, 127 songs, an integrated 2-track sequencer, 3-zone snare pad, the Groove Check practice feature and easy-view backlit display. The DTXPRESS III also allows players to practice and perform in complete privacy using headphones, and will connect directly to a PC or Mac computer via an external MIDI interface or the integrated TO HOST connection.

Targeted to customers in the market for a higher-end option, the DTXPRESS III Special Edition contains all the features of the DTXPRESS III, with the addition of an ergonomic curved rack; three round multi-zone cymbal pads (3-zone, 2-zone and mono); and a high hat controller with the unique combination of an acoustic-type stand and electronic pad. The kit is set to deliver in March 2004 at a target MSRP of $1,899, and ships with a single bass drum pedal and drum throne.
