With the shipment of the K2661 Kurzweil has expanded the K2600 series to include a 61-key synth. Like the other keyboards in the K2600 Series, the newest keyboard offers Kurzweil's Variable Architecture Synthesis Technology (V.A.S.T.) architecture and extensive control.

The K2661 includes a 32MB on onboard ROM sounds, including over 500 programs with Kurzweil's Stereo Grand Piano, Contemporary, Orchestral and General MIDI sounds. It also includes two additional ROM slots, allowing the user to customize the sound selection with a choice of ROM blocks.

The K2661 includes optical digital ports, which are selectable as ADAT Lightpipe or S/PDIF for up to 8 channels of 24-bit digital I/O. The addition of a SmartMedia card drive gives the K2661 even more flexibility for loading and saving material.
