Mackie announced their new S200 Series and C Series Precision Passive loudspeakers at the 2005 Winter NAMM show.

The perfect complement for any powered mixer or amplifier, the Mackie S200 Series loudspeakers, featuring the S215 and S225, are available in single-woofer, as well dual-woofer configurations. The S215 ($549 MSRP) is a two-way loudspeaker that features a single 15-inch woofer with a nearly indestructible high-temperature voice coil. The larger S225 ($849 MSRP) features two of these same everlasting woofers. In both models, a 1.75-inch titanium dome compression driver with optimized symmetric phase plug, handles the high frequencies.

The driver/crossover combination allows the S215 to handle up to 1400 watts of peak power, deliver a peak SPL of 130dB, with a frequency response of 55Hz to 20kHz. The S225 can handle up to 2800 watts of peak power, deliver a peak SPL of 135dB, with a frequency response of 46Hz to 20kHz.

Both S215 and S225 feature high-output, low- and high-frequency drivers matched with precision passive crossovers. Inputs accept either Neutrik Speakon connectors, or female 1/4-inch TRS. S Series cabinets are constructed using ultra-tough 18mm Baltic birch plywood and pressure-injected structural resin. The rugged enclosures, which employ integrated carrying handles and molded corners, work in concert with the driver/crossover combination to allow the S Series loudspeakers to deliver extremely high sound pressure levels while retaining a very natural sound.

But wait, there's more.... In addition to the larger S Series, Mackie is also introducing the more compact C Series portable PA speakers. Designed for optimum performance with Mackie powered mixers and power amps, the C Series loudspeakers are passive versions of Mackie's popular SRM450 and SRM350 portable active loudspeakers. The C200 ($449 MSRP) and C300z ($529 MSRP), an updated version of the current Mackie C300, both feature injection-molded composite chassis that are rigid enough to prevent unwanted vibrations and standing waves inside the cabinet, but light enough to keep any touring musician out of traction well into their 70s.

Even though they are the smallest passive speakers in Mackie's line, both the C200 and C300z take advantage of high-concept acoustic science. The crossover in the C Series is a unique Low Impedance Compensated Crossover (LICC) design. With EQ and crossover points meticulously chosen so that beam-width patterns match in both drivers, C Series loudspeakers offer natural sound at all volume levels.

Both the C200 and C300z have built-in flypoints for hanging, and a socket on the bottom for mounting on commercially available speaker stands. In addition, their trapezoidal shape allows them to function as a floor wedge for stage monitor applications.

The C200 can handle up to 500 watts of peak power, deliver a peak SPL of 118dB, and offers a frequency response of 59Hz to 22kHz. The larger C300z can handle up to 600 watts of peak power, deliver a peak SPL of 123dB, with a frequency response of 45Hz to 20kHz.

The new S200 and C Series passive loudspeakers will be available in early Q2, 2005.
