Resolution Audio Electronics Debuts with ResoPre-873
January 20, 2005
Fulfilling the desire on the part of artists, engineers and producers for modern versions of vintage equipment, Audio Exchange International (AXI), a subsidiary of Professional Audio Design (PAD), introduced the Resolution Audio Electronics brand at Winter NAMM 2005. Resolution Audio Electronics is a manufacturing company specializing in newly manufactured products that capture the sound of classic analog, discreet, Class-A designs, while adding a twist of modern capability for each unit.
"One of the main business stays at PAD is in the field of console refurbishing," says Dave Malekpour, president of AXI. "Over the years, our customers have asked us for a lot of capability changes and as a result of that process our engineering staff has developed a lot of specialized audio circuits. For instance, we have customized vintage Neve consoles, adding our own custom electronics to enhance performance to our client's specifications. One of our clients wanted to have his pre-amps remoted so they could be right next to the drum set for tracking with remote controllability from his ProTools system and I thought to myself, 'Hey we can do that', which inspired our first product."
The first product, the ResoPre-873, made its debut this past Fall and will be distributed through AXI. The technology is based on the timeless, analog, discreet, Class-A mic pre-amp circuit and transformers that defined the classic sound of the 70s and 80s.
"The MIDI control functions in the ResoPre-873 truly make this unit a fine confection of classic superstar sound, remote control capability and digital integration," says Brandon McHale, senior design technician for AXI. "The unit was designed to live as close to the microphone as possible, affording the engineer a clean signal by limiting the low level microphone wire run to a minimum. Control comes from the users computer, digital console, control surface or a remote unit, as there are no knobs on this device. The ResoPre-873 is a two rack space unit that has 8-channels of in and out with an optional digital output card that we will be introducing in the production unit. This is the type of gear Resolution Audio Electronics was formed to produce, and the ResoPre-873 is a great starting product for the company."
Also in the works is the new DiPre-73 that will be offered one and two channel packages. The single channel is a stand-alone, desktop-type module built in a metal module chassis, utilizing vintage parts from the ten or plus years working on original Neve consoles. There is a two-channel rack mountable package that fits into one rack space to provide a great sounding classic signal path that people know and love in a package that is very convenient.
