Stephen Paul Microphones New Large Diaphragm CondenserRWT January 28, 2005
Designed by Stephen Paul prior to his untimely
passing in December 2003, the new large diaphragm condenser microphone microphone contains
a number of innovations, the sum total of which are
a product he was proud to hang his name on.
Contained in a sleek body machined from brass and
finished in matte-black, the microphone is an
expression of understated beauty.
Behind the stainless steel grille, the heart of the
microphone is a 34mm diameter, 3 micron custom
built capsule, manufactured by Stephen Paul Audio to
Stephen's exacting specifications. The capsule is
suspended in an internal shock mount to isolate it
from stand-borne noise. Stephen was the first to
produce a 3 micron large diaphragm capsule and to
this day his modifications are sought after by many
engineers and producers.
A thumbwheel allows noiseless selection of Cardioid
or Omnidirectional pattern, both usable with a low-
noise 11dB pad for improved fidelity of even high
level signals
Production is slated
to begin in the first half of 2005. The microphone will
be built entirely in the United States.
