New T5 Thinline 5-Way Guitar from Taylor

January 20, 2005

There are electric guitars, there are acoustic guitars, and now, there is the new Taylor "T5" -- a little bit of both, and a whole lot more.

The "T5" is Taylor Guitars' new thinline guitar with a custom 5-way switch for selecting five pure analog Taylor tones -- from warm and woody acoustic sounds to full-on electric girth for lead and rhythm playing. David Hosler, Taylor Special Project Manager, and company co-founder/President, Bob Taylor, will demo the T5 at NAMM.

Inspired by the Taylor Grand Auditorium silhouette, the T5 features a sleek, carved hollow body of sapele, and a neck of Tropical American mahogany. A shortened scale length (24-7/8 inches) ensures a fingerboard that is pleasurable to play with either electric or acoustic strings. Like all Taylor guitars, a custom voiced soundboard is the heart of the T5 tone; on both T5 Standard and T5 Custom models, a spruce top creates a strong, colorful voice with outrageous sustain; sexy, stylized f-holes command the eye and enhance the resonance of the T5 body chamber, allowing the top to breathe and capture the dynamics of a player's performance.

Both Standard and Custom Models are available with Cherry, Honey, or Tobacco bursts and optional Premium Tops of stunning flamey maple or figured Hawaiian koa. The T5 Standard comes with chrome Taylor tuners and subtle "micro dot" fingerboard inlays, while the T5 Custom has gold Taylor tuners and Taylor's exquisite and well-loved Artist inlays.

The T5 features a whole new generation of electronics: a custom designed Taylor rear pickup can be seen through the top, while another proprietary pickup is nestled in the neck joint, and a third pickup (body sensor) is attached beneath the top for acoustic tones. Tones are selected via the easy access 5-way switch located on the side of the T5. The proprietary T5 preamp/EQ includes controls for volume, resonance, and detail, and a 9-volt battery (with LED indicator) delivers approximately 40 hours of plugged-in performance.

The T5 has a standard side-mounted quarter-inch output jack, and may be plugged into any amplifier using a standard guitar cord, or into any balanced destination, such as a PA system or recording device, using a TRS cable.

The T5 will ship in late spring 2005.
