January 24, 2005

At the 2005 Winter NAMM show, Epiphone showed two new Zakk Wylde signature Les Paul Custom models: the Camo and Buzzsaw. Based on Zakk's guitar, the Epiphone Buzzsaw has a deep mahogany body to enhance its sustain, with a maple top that replicates the orange and black custom graphics. A hard maple neck is set deep into the Buzzsaw's body to provide superior stability, while a flush rosewood fingerboard provides the ultimate canvass for lightning-speed riffs, slides and bends. True to the blueprint, the Epiphone Buzzsaw also features twin EMG-HZ4 humbuckers for Wylde's high-output tone, and a tune-o-matic bridge and stop bar that no matter what's happening on stage - the wheels won't fall off. The Camo is a faithful version of Zakk's Gibson original, complete with all the features you need to unleash hell. Under the camouflage maple top you'll find a mahogany body that offers warmth and sustain. Then you've got a set maple neck, lending a biting quality to the mix and providing an ultra-fast playing experience. But the icing on this unholy cake is surely the EMG-HZ4 active humbuckers – pickups that deliver the high output overdrive that has become Zakk's calling card, without the background hiss associated with singlecoils.
