January 20, 2005

The Fantom-X series grows stronger with the release of the new Version 2 operation system, which adds eight stereo linear audio tracks to the Fantom-X's sequencer. Any Fantom-X6, X7, or X8 can be upgraded to Version 2 via the FAN-X-UP1 "Audio Track Expansion Kit." The upgrade kit includes a CompactFlash card with installer software, PC card adaptor, plus a CD-ROM that contains Version 2 OS, an updated Fantom-X Editor, a Multisample Editor, and an S-700 file converter for Mac and PC. Unlike sequence-driven samples, these new audio tracks can be played back from any point in the song, and can be synchronized perfectly with the MIDI tracks thanks to the Fantom's realtime time-stretching. It's also possible to output a Skip Back sample to an audio track. Owners of the Fantom-XR rack can also add Version 2-functionality to their rack with the FAN-XR-UP1 "Sample Tools Expansion Kit." All of the new features for Fantom-X keyboards are now available for the Fantom-XR, minus the inclusion of sequencer audio tracks. The new operating system is installed from the supplied CompactFlash card and PC-card adapter. MSRP on both upgrade kits is $49.00.
