Korg Presents C-520 And C-320 Concert Digital Pianos

Korg's new C-520 and C-320 Digital Concert Pianos combine advances in sound, touch and design.

January 21, 2006

Korg presents the C-520 and C-320 Concert Digital Pianos. Both provide rich piano sound, an authentic feeling 88-note hammer action keyboard and a host of new features, along with a stylish, modern cabinet design and color options to match any decor.

Offering a heightened level of realism and feel, the C-520 and C-320 feature Korg's proprietary Piano eXperience™ technology, which employs the latest stereo-sampling techniques to convey the natural imaging and nuances of a concert grand piano. Korg's new piano PCM fully captures the complete dynamic range of the original instrument. The C-520 adds the sound of the key being released and the hammer returning, as well as the sympathetic damper resonance of the strings.

Both instruments employ Korg's ultra-responsive RH3 real weighted graded keyboard action. The keys are progressively lighter toward the upper end of the keyboard, faithfully reproducing the touch of an acoustic piano. Adjustable velocity curves (C-520-seven levels; C-320-three levels) allow players to tailor the action to their own playing style. C-520 also includes a fixed level setting for an authentic harpsichord and organ feel.

Each model offers a variety of sounds including multiple acoustic pianos, harpsichord and clavinets, organ, electric piano and dozens of other instruments. The C-520 features 40 sounds arranged into four banks of 10 for easy access, while the C-320 offers 30. All sounds can be played individually or in two-timbre layers and the C-520 adds a split function. Multiple reverb and chorus effects, with adjustable intensity levels, add spaciousness and depth to the sounds. The C-520 also adds 24 Insert Effects to enhance the character of each sound.

The C-520 and C-320 have three pedals (damper, soft, sostenuto) including half-pedaling response for the damper and soft pedals for an even more authentic acoustic feel. Each piano includes Key Transpose, Fine Tuning, adjustable metronome and dual headphone outputs that are ideal for silent practice or teacher and student privacy. Additional temperaments (Equal, Kirnberger, Werckmeister) are provided, as well as built-in demo songs. For pro players, both models include MIDI in/out ports for interfacing with a computer or other MIDI-equipped musical product. The C-520 has a USB port for direct connection to a computer, as well as an Audio In jack for running an external audio device (CD player or electronic musical instrument) through its built-in speakers. Additionally, the C-520 includes a two-track recorder (45,000 notes) and an enhanced metronome featuring realistic drum patterns.

The C-320's internal sound system incorporates dual 25 Watt amplifiers and a full-range stereo speaker system. The C-520 features four speakers housed in an internal bass reflex chamber, powered by two 35 Watt amplifiers.

The C-320 comes in dark rosewood or a distinctive light cherry. The C-520 is available in dark rosewood. Both feature a convenient music stand, sliding key cover and clean, intuitive front panel. The C-520 includes a 16-character backlit LCD display as well.
