Tech 21 Introduces Double Drive 3X Programmable Distortion Pedal

January 27, 2006

(Click for a close-up)

Tech 21 offers the Double Drive 3X distortion pedal, a 3-channel, fully programmable version of its single channel predecessor. The Double Drive design uniquely offers two different types of distortion that can be used individually or cascaded together. Each type of distortion is based on the power amp output stage of specific tube amplifiers: Drive A yields a "Class A" distortion, rich in even harmonics; Drive A/B provides a "Class A/B" distortion, which is rich in odd harmonics. The 100% analog Double Drive 3X features active 3-band EQ. This expanded tone section offers the flexibility to dial in a wide range of styles, from thrash metal to blues.

Digital only in its programmability, you can store three custom sounds, even on the fly. You simply tweak the controls, double-tap on one of the three footswitches, and it's saved in that location. You can also choose to reserve one channel for a clean boost up to 10dB via the Level control by setting both Drives at minimum.

Other features include a 1megOhm high impedance 1/4" input (same as traditional tube amps use), a 1kOhm low impedance 1/4" output (drives long cables without loss of signal integrity), and smooth, silent-switching custom actuators.

Operable with a 9V alkaline battery (not included) or optional power supply (Tech 21 Model #DC2). MSRP: $195.00.
