Ibanez Debuts New Sage Acoustic Guitars

In 1980, Ibanez had one of the widest assortments of acoustic guitars available. Just a few short years later, interest in acoustic instruments all but dried up as synthesizers and electric guitars ruled. The Ibanez acoustic line-up diminished until it was really a selection in name only from about 1985 till 1993 when Ibanez began to rebuild their acoustic line up.

Since then the Ibanez acoustic line-up has rebounded to a size much larger than even the impressive assortment of the '80s. But Irene Shvartsman, the head the Ibanez Acoustic division in the U.S.A. still found herself drawn to the old acoustics of that time.

"Someone once referred to that time as the 'Golden Age of Ibanez Acoustic Guitars,'" said Shvartsman. "I wanted to add something like that, not exactly like, it, but inspired by it. Hence, the new Sage Traditional acoustics. They're traditional and they have a lot of the lines and colors and high quality of the older Ibanez's. Perhaps, best of all, like the old models, they feature prices that nearly anyone can afford. We think it's a new benchmark in entry-level guitars in sound, playability and appearance."

The SGT features three basic body shapes: dreadnought, jumbo, and grand concert, all with mahogany back and sides. Beautiful sunburst finishes and natural high-gloss finishes combined with large classic pickguards contribute to the SGT's vintage styling.

Models start at $214.27 list price with the highest priced model, which features a solid-spruce top, listing for just $285.70. All are pure acoustic.
