Hudson Limited Kicks Off 2008 With New DVD Releases
January 25, 2008
Gavin Harrison's Advanced "Rhythmic Visions" and "Rhythmic Horizons" DVDs
Expanding on the advanced rhythmic concepts that he introduced in his award winning books, "Rhythmic Illusions" and "Rhythmic Perspectives" — and showcasing the incredible drumming with Porcupine Tree and others that earned him first place in the Progressive category of Modern Drummer's 2007 Readers Poll — Gavin Harrison's "Rhythmic Visions" and "Rhythmic Horizons" DVDs illustrate a wealth of new methods that drummers can use to manipulate time and create drum patterns and rhythmic effects in contemporary playing situations. These two challenging and complementary titles are now available individually as well as in a specially-priced two-pack from Hudson Limited, a new division of Hudson Music.
Taking a musical rather than technical approach, "Rhythmic Visions" and "Horizons" are designed to improve a drummer's sense of rhythm and inspire new ideas that can be applied to any drumming style. "Rhythmic Visions" (1 hour, 10 minutes) provides an in-depth look at the Rhythmic Illusions concept, featuring lessons on rhythmic displacement, modulation, subdivisions and spacings, while "Rhythmic Horizons" (2 hours, 20 minutes) takes things to the next level with chapters on overriding, resolving and polyrhythmic theory, to name only a few.
Both DVDs feature a variety of interactive lessons, demonstrations, play-along exercises and musical performances plus German and Italian subtitles. On-screen notation, printable PDF files and markers at the start of each lesson make the cutting-edge content easy to navigate, access and understand.

While future releases will showcase players such as Antonio Sanchez, Jason Bittner and John Blackwell, as befits the unique quality of the "Master Series" and master class concept, Hudson's initial "Master Series" DVD features one of the most influential drummers and musicians of all time, Steve Gadd. His natural warmth, charisma and abundant drumming skills are readily apparent as he demonstrates and discusses many of the signature drum tracks he created with artists such as Simon & Garfunkel, Steeley Dan, Chick Corea, James Taylor and Eric Clapton. One of the many highlights of the performance is a self-accompanied brush solo on "Bye, Bye Blackbird". Bonus footage includes a 20-minute Steve Gadd documentary from the 2003 American Drummers Achievement Award ceremony plus a Steve Gadd — Giovanni Hidalgo duet from 1997 Modern Drummer Festival.
