BridgeCo Adds VST Capability To Popular BeBoB Audio Interface Platform
January 18, 2008
Advertisement BridgeCo Inc. announced at the NAMM conference this week that its popular BeBoB audio interface processor and firmware product line now supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) capabilities. BeBoB based audio interfaces and breakout boxes can now seamlessly integrate high-quality external VST hardware units into the creative environment. Leading effect vendors prefer external hardware systems because they do not over-burdening the host computer acting as the DAW (digital audio workstation). With VST compatibility, external effect engines can be easily plugged into a BeBoB-based system along with other external audio sources for mixing and capture by the host computer. BeBoB enables a system to be either a combined breakout box and effect system, or a pure effect device. BeBoB can also simplify the integration of analog effect hardware. Using BeBoB and a single FireWire™/1394 cable connection, a host computer becomes a powerful DAW that stores, controls and automates all effect parameters, while a nest of cable connectors are combined into a single interface. "Leading studios and musicians increasingly rely on high-quality studio effects to create their audio content," said BridgeCo's senior BeBoB architect Day Koch. "Adding VST capability to BeBoB allows BridgeCo to maintain our market leadership amongst audio trend-setters and early adopters." World's Most Popular Audio Interface Platform BridgeCo's BeBoB audio processor and firmware technology is used in audio interfaces, musical instruments and breakout boxes. These products enable musicians to combine signals from multiple instruments, microphones, sample clips and other audio sources, and transfer them to a computer using a single FireWire (IEEE 1394) or USB 2.0 interface. Once audio tracks are recorded and stored on a computer, they can be edited, arranged and played-back to create a complete musical or audio experience. BeBoB is the most widely used audio interface platform in the world. Thirty individual products built by more than a dozen manufacturers use BridgeCo's BeBoB platform as the core technology of their audio networking systems. Systems are available for a wide range of specific applications, user requirements and price points, serving professional musicians, disc-jockeys, as well as the consumer audio market. The BeBoB Processor and Firmware Platform The VST-compatible BeBoB platform includes a comprehensive SDK, real-time operating system (RTOS) and firmware, and comes bundled with BridgeCo's DM1500E or DM1100E processors to implement a complete audio interface product. BridgeCo proprietary dual-core, ARM-based and DSP-enhanced processors combine networking, control and DSP capabilities in a single device. The DM1500E incorporates a switchable interface, supporting up to 128 simultaneous audio channels using FireWire and up to 24 simultaneous channels using USB. The DM1100E supports FireWire interfaces and up to 12 audio channels simultaneously. BeBoB/VST drivers are available for computers running Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems. The BeBoB Windows driver supports WDM, ASIO & GSIF. Supported audio interfaces include ADAT/SMUX, SPDIF, I2S and I8S. The company offers development boards and reference designs for all BeBoB processors. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.bridgeco.com.
